Latest Updates from Our Project:

Steam Keys Posted Ahead of Launch!
almost 8 years ago – Wed, May 16, 2018 at 05:17:43 PM

Happy Launch Eve Eve, everyone! We’re preparing to leave Early Access in 2 short days, but we think you’ve all waited long enough. If you backed at a level that includes a retail Steam key, you can now visit your BackerKit dashboard, get your key from the Digital Downloads section, and start playing! The version you will get if you install today is still Early Access version 0.9, but the game will update via your Steam client on Friday when the official 1.0 version is released.

If you backed at a level that includes the Treasure Chest, that will be delivered as a second Steam key on Friday. Redeeming that key will unlock the Phoenix’s Den in version 1.0. The other bonus Heroes and Dungeons and the Soundtrack will unlock in future updates as they become available.

.

Launch Parties!

There will be lots of ways to check out the game and celebrate the launch all day Friday, May 18th!

Tell your friends!
Tell your friends!

Next Wednesday the game will come to iPad and Android tablets. Over the coming months we will add the bonus heroes and dungeons, and of course the full Forest of Shadows expansion. This is just the beginning. Thanks again to every one of you. We couldn’t have made Digital One Deck Dungeon a reality without your help and we’re so excited for the game to finally get into your hands!

Official Release Date: May 18 on Steam, May 23 on Mobile
almost 8 years ago – Fri, May 11, 2018 at 09:41:32 PM

You heard it here first dungeoneers - One Deck Dungeon will be leaving Early Access and entering retail release on Friday, May 18th. And, as we promised, the mobile release will happen 5 days later, on May 23rd on iTunes and Google Play. The retail price of the game will be $9.99 (USD) across all platforms.

Digitally delve the dungeons in 1 week!

Steam

A huge thanks goes out to all those backers and players who participated in Early Access. The game is so much better as a result of your thorough playtesting and feedback, both in terms of little things like visual polish, or big things like the undo feature. We couldn't have done it without you!

Retail backers can expect to get their Steam keys next week, just ahead of the actual launch. You should get a notification from BackerKit once your key is available, but we will also post here when keys go out, and you’ll be able to visit your dashboard directly

Treasure Chest

For those of you who backed at a level that includes the Treasure Chest, you will receive some more things in BackerKit.

First off, expect to receive a second Steam key that will automatically add all 5 promos to your game as they are released. Phoenix’s Den is in testing right now and Fanatic is expected to enter testing very soon. We don’t have a timeline yet on Caliana, the Witch, or the Hellhound, but we’ll keep you posted as we work on those. (EDIT: Check out the near-complete Fanatic art!)

Second, the soundtrack! Beatscribe created new and updated music for the video game. While the music is complete in game, music tracks on a soundtrack aren’t quite the same as those that are used in game. Stay tuned for more info on the soundtrack in the future.

Mobile

Thanks to more than 500 mobile backers, One Deck Dungeon for tablets will be released on May 23rd for iTunes and Google Play. On iOS, the game supports iPad devices running iOS 10 or later. On Android, the game supports tablets with 7” screen or larger, running Android 4.4 or later.

.

As we mentioned during the campaign, we don’t want mobile backers to have to spend more than their Steam counterparts. The game will launch on mobile with a special price of $8.99 for the first 7 days. Make sure to snap it up before Wednesday, May 30th to take advantage of the discount!

Phones?

One Deck Dungeon will be initially supported on tablets, not on phones. We know that there are lots of folks, especially in the Android world, who have really big phones (phablets, as it were) and want to play One Deck Dungeon on those devices. While it could be considered technically possible to just shrink the game down to those screens, that would not provide an experience up to our standards. In the future we may look at reworking the UI of the game to support phones.

One More Thing

We would hate for you to miss the Forest for the trees so today we have one more surprise for you...

Forest of Surprises!
Forest of Surprises!

In conversations with Chris from Asmadi after the Kickstarter funded, we all decided that we wanted to bring Forest of Shadows to digital as soon as possible. As a result, we’ve been sneakily working on the engine for it while we’ve been finalizing the retail release of One Deck Dungeon!

There’s still tons of work to do, but we’re much further along that you might guess (since before today, a good guess would be “they haven’t even started”). Basically, we’re not out of the woods yet. But we are trunking right along and branching into new areas for this expansion, and we promise to let you know when it’s ready to leaf development!

Live Stream

To celebrate today’s announcement, Jeremy will be streaming on our Twitch channel at 1 pm Eastern and showing off the Phoenix’s Den for the first time! Join us live, or check it out later on our YouTube Channel.

Early Access Update #3: Achievements and Stats
almost 8 years ago – Wed, May 09, 2018 at 01:28:38 AM

Our fourth major Early Access update has the most oft-requested feature from you, the players: undo! Oh, and a little thing called Gauntlet Mode... read on for all the details!

Undo

The people have spoken, and we have listened! This feature has been in the works for a while because we wanted to make sure it struck the right balance within the gameplay of One Deck Dungeon.

One click to change your mind.
One click to change your mind.

During the game you can use the new Undo button to go back after making a decision in most cases. This means you can change your mind after fleeing, using a skill or potion, claiming loot, converting dice into a heroic die, descending, etc.

However, when any new information is revealed, you can no longer go back from that point. For example:

  • Whenever dice are rolled, you can no longer go back.
  • When a door card is flipped face up, you can no longer go back.
  • When face-down cards are discarded (usually by spending time), you can go back as long as you don't view the discard pile. Once you view the discard pile, you can no longer go back.

We hope you enjoy this new feature, and are happy to keep listening if there are ways we can make it better!

Gauntlet Mode

Are you ready for the ultimate test of your One Deck Dungeon skill? The goal of Gauntlet Mode is to defeat each of the bosses in as few total games as possible. You start with a blank checklist and bring a different party to each game. Gauntlet Mode games and checklists are recorded separately from regular games and checklists.

One down, four to go!
One down, four to go!

In order to access Gauntlet Mode, you need to prove your worth by defeating each of the core game bosses in regular mode. You can choose any difficulty level for each game, and your final score will be recorded on the leaderboard of the lowest difficulty across all games. To get a rank on the higher difficulty leaderboards, you need to play each game at that difficulty or harder.

Card Library Screen

A brand new screen is now accessible from the main menu - Card Library. This screen allows you to review the details of each hero, dungeon, encounter, and other card in the game at your leisure.

Other Improvements

This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones:

Info Display

  • Click the XP lantern track to view the cards you've claimed as XP.
  • Click the hourglass to view the cards in the discard pile (note the interaction with undo above).
  • When viewing your full hero card, you can click Item and Skill buttons to view their full cards all together.
  • The other XP Level cards are now accessible in-game.
  • When viewing a full encounter card, you can see the status of that card for the Monster Hunter and Librarian achievements.

Interactions

  • If you lose a game, the end game screen has a Try Again button to play the same game setup again.

Bug fixes

  • If the general supply had no more agility or strength dice, Force Bolt would not work properly.
  • If the general supply had no more heroic dice and both heroes used Armor Crush, it would not work properly.

What's Next

We are getting close to the end of Early Access and the 1.0 launch. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

One Deck Dungeon Chosen as Finalist for Momocon 2018!
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Apr 17, 2018 at 08:29:14 PM

We are excited to announce that One Deck Dungeon has been chosen as one of just 20 finalists for the Momocon Indie Game Showcase this year! This means we’ll be headed to Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend to show the game off at the 4-day Momocon. If you are in the Atlanta area, stop by and say hello. If you have friends in the area, why not tell them to come check out the cool digital tabletop game you helped make a reality?

We’re also looking for 2 heroes to help us run the booth on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you know One Deck Dungeon (physical or digital) and want to help out, we’ll provide you with a free badge that gets you into the entire convention, plus 2 swank Handelabranaut T-Shirts (sizing subject to availability). All you need to do is spend half of the weekend hours of the show helping us out at the booth, playing games and chatting with players. If you are interested, fill out our contact form and choose as your subject “I would like to help out at Momocon 2018”.

See you in Atlanta!

Early Access Update #3: Achievements and Stats
almost 8 years ago – Wed, Apr 11, 2018 at 01:12:26 AM

Early Access continues, and One Deck Dungeon keeps getting better! The 3rd major update is available now and is all about achievements and stats.

Achievements

Starting with version 0.8 you can earn Steam achievements in One Deck Dungeon. We've created 34 achievements ranging from the simple (defeat the Dragon) to the difficult (win a game on Fearless) to the diabolical (win a game without claiming an item as loot). Happy hunting!

(no spoilers here!)
(no spoilers here!)

Statistics

A brand new Statistics screen shows your all-time win/loss records and various other interesting items. You can compare your own stats with the global totals across all players on Steam. At the end of each game, you can check your stats for that game as well.

Note: Achievements and stats will not be counted on any games in progress from the previous version. They will be tracked starting with your first new game.

System Requirements Update

As we move forward with updates to our underlying game engine (Unity), the minimum system requirements have changed. Windows XP and DirectX 9 are no longer supported.

  • Windows OS: Windows Vista SP1+
  • Graphics card: DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities

Other Improvements

This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones:

Features:

  • Steam Community Leaderboards track your total wins on each difficulty level
  • Reset completed hero progression checklists in the New Game screen to increase their Prestige

Visual Polish:

  • Improved animation when descending to meet the boss

Interactions:

  • Toggle selected Basic Skill from the full checklist view in the New Game screen
  • Added button to view hero progression help from the full checklist view

Info Display:

  • When a skill causes a hero to heal, the damage icon animates toward the skill responsible

Bug Fixes:

  • If you used a healing potion while deciding which hero would take damage, that could cause the game to get stuck
  • Certain skills could be used when they would have no effect; now they will be disabled in that case
  • The warning confirmation displayed when using a potion in certain peril encounter situations had a glitchy layout
  • Quickly clicking dice in a wide box will no longer cause a display glitch
  • The First Aid talent would not always take effect properly in 2 hero mode

What's Next

Still to come before the 1.0 launch are Gauntlet (quest) mode, limited undo support, and more. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback! With every passing day, One Deck Dungeon is closer to retail release, and it’s truly starting to look much more like a forest, and less like a collection of trees.
